Honey House
COMING SOON!
As the bees build, so do we! Here at Huneebee Project we are very busy with some exciting projects.
In collaboration with Cityseed, Huneebee is preparing to launch our Honey House, a new community honey commissary. It will be a space where beekeepers can extract and/or bottle their honey. Beekeepers will also have the opportunity to render beeswax for use in candles, balms, and salves. The space can be rented, and equipment can be used as needed without each beekeeper having to buy and store all that equipment themselves.
What is a Honey Commissary? Why use it?
A honey commissary is a shared-use facility where beekeepers can extract, process, bottle, and prepare honey using professional-grade equipment in a clean, food-safe environment. Rather than investing in expensive equipment that may only be used a few days each year, beekeepers can access the tools and space they need when harvest season arrives.
Honey commissaries are common in other agricultural industries, where producers share commercial kitchens, processing facilities, and specialized equipment. The Honey House brings this model to beekeeping, making honey production more accessible, efficient, and affordable for hobbyist, sideliner, and commercial beekeepers alike.
Whether you're harvesting your first few hives or managing a larger apiary, the Honey House provides the resources, support, and community needed to help you bring your honey from hive to jar.
Commercial-grade Equipment
Honey extraction equipment can represent a significant investment, especially for newer beekeepers or those looking to expand their operations. The Honey House provides access to professional-grade extraction, bottling, and wax-processing equipment that would otherwise cost thousands of dollars to purchase and maintain.
Our facility is designed to help beekeepers process honey more efficiently, reduce labor, and improve consistency while eliminating the need to store and maintain large pieces of equipment at home.
Clean, Food-safe Environment
Producing a high-quality food product requires a clean and organized workspace. The Honey House is designed specifically for honey processing and follows established cleaning and sanitation procedures to help ensure a safe environment for both beekeepers and consumers.
Beekeepers can work with confidence knowing they are processing honey in a dedicated facility that prioritizes cleanliness, organization, and best practices for food handling.
Connection & Community
Beekeeping can sometimes feel like a solitary activity, but it doesn't have to be. The Honey House creates a space where beekeepers can connect, share knowledge, troubleshoot challenges, and learn from one another.
Whether you're a first-year beekeeper looking for guidance or an experienced producer willing to share your expertise, the Honey House fosters collaboration and strengthens Connecticut's beekeeping community. We believe that when beekeepers support one another, everyone benefits—including the bees.
Support our Mission
Revenue generated through Honey House usage helps support the Huneebee Project's programs, including youth workforce development, alumni engagement, beekeeping education, mentorship opportunities, community gardens, and pollinator conservation initiatives.
By using the Honey House, you're not only supporting your own beekeeping operation—you're helping create opportunities for the next generation of beekeepers and strengthening the local food and environmental movement.
