YOUTH PROGRAMS
At Huneebee Project, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to discover their strengths, build meaningful relationships, and develop the confidence to pursue their goals.
Our youth programming is designed specifically for systems-impacted teens and young adults navigating or disrupted by public institutions including the child protective and foster care systems, the juvenile justice system, and behavioral and mental health systems.
Systems-impacted youth often face intersecting challenges like poverty or housing instability, experience high rates of trauma and systemic inequity, and are less likely than their peers to graduate from high school or be employed as a young adult.
Through a combination of nature-based healing, paid workforce development, mentorship, and community connection, Huneebee participants gain transferable job skills while becoming leaders in environmental conservation.
Whether a young person is just beginning their journey with Huneebee or has been part of our community for years, we strive to provide consistent opportunities for growth, purpose, belonging, and support.
Beekeepers in Residence
Our signature therapeutic workforce development program. Beekeepers in Residence (BKIR) is Huneebee Project's 15-week paid job-skills training program for teens ages 14-18. Participants learn the art and science of beekeeping while developing practical employment skills, confidence, and resilience.
-
Working alongside experienced beekeepers, clinical social workers, mentors, and community volunteers, participants care for honey bee colonies, restore pollinator habitat, harvest honey, cultivate flowers, and engage in community education.
More than learning to care for bees, participants learn to communicate effectively, solve problems, manage responsibilities, work as part of a team, and recognize their own strengths.
The therapeutic aspects of beekeeping are intentionally paired with professional development workshops, mentorship, creative expression, social work support, and opportunities for leadership. Upon graduation, participants become lifelong members of the Huneebee community.

Youth Alumni Dinner Series
Because graduation is just the beginning. Our monthly Alumni Dinner Series provides graduates of the Beekeepers in Residence program, current youth employees, mentors, volunteers, and invited guests with an opportunity to reconnect over a shared meal.
-
Support shouldn't end when a program does.
Each dinner creates space to celebrate accomplishments, strengthen relationships, access ongoing mentorship, learn from guest speakers, and support one another through life's transitions. Alumni are encouraged to bring family members, friends, and significant others, reflecting our belief that healing and growth happen in community.
The Alumni Dinner Series helps ensure that every graduate continues to have a place where they are known, valued, and supported.

Life doesn't always fit into a program schedule.
Whether preparing for a job interview, updating a résumé, navigating college applications, exploring career pathways, addressing workplace challenges, or simply checking in, Office Hours offer flexible guidance tailored to each young person's goals.
Our team works alongside youth to identify resources, remove barriers, celebrate successes, and problem-solve challenges—reinforcing that asking for support is a strength.
